Read the passage below and answer the question that follow based on the passage.

Not all contacts with informants are made through participation in the community’s activities. Though a large number will, of course, come through introductions and leads supplied by nonperforming folk whom the collector has met during the course of participation, some may have to be sought out by the collector using survey field methods. Many tradition bearers, especially passive ones, may not even be known as performers by their friends and neighbours. Visits to all the farms and rural households within a certain area may turn up some passive bearers from whom a collector may garner a fair amount of folklore. Occasionally, exceptional performers with extraordinary repertories who are not known for their talents by their fellow countrymen will be located by such a survey. Some traditional singers and storytellers are part of a private family tradition and while these talented folk would never think of performing for local people, they may consent to perform for a friendly stranger. In the case of a community which has not previously been covered by field work, or where the field worker has neither the time nor the inclination to avail himself of the many avenues to leads which will come from participation, the survey may be the only road to finding the tradition bearers in a given area. Whatever the reason may be for the collector seeking informants without leads, there can be no greater thrill than to discover by one’s own initiative an unusually fine folklore informant. And since most communities at this late date have at most only one or a few really talented traditional performers (if they have any at all), the collector is indeed fortunate who makes even one such discovery on any field trip. For the field worker who can take advantage of participation, however, the road leading to most of his informants will be paved for him by one or another of his participant contacts.
